Official Press Release

VALZEO International Workshop, Science Café, and Project Meeting Successfully Held in Ancona, Italy

The Horizon Europe MSCA Staff Exchanges project VALZEO successfully organized a series of high-level scientific and networking activities at the Faculty of Engineering of Università Politecnica delle Marche on 21–22 May 2026, bringing together researchers, project partners, students, and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond.

The activities included the VALZEO International Workshop, the VALZEO Science Café, and the VALZEO Project Meeting, reinforcing the project’s commitment to scientific excellence, international collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination of sustainable innovation.

The VALZEO International Workshop, held on 21 May 2026, featured scientific presentations addressing innovative environmental technologies, circular economy solutions, advanced materials, air quality improvement, environmental remediation, and sustainable energy systems.

The workshop included presentations by researchers and experts from partner institutions, including Chiara Giosuè from Università Politecnica delle Marche on materials and technologies for improving air quality, Natalia Czerwińska from Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Industrial Chemistry on hybrid electrospun adsorbent filters for environmental applications, and Prof. Anna Laura Eusebi from Università Politecnica delle Marche on Life Cycle Assessment methodologies and sustainability contextualization for energy storage materials.

The workshop created a dynamic platform for scientific exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, supporting VALZEO’s objectives in sustainable environmental engineering and circular water-energy systems.

On the same day, the consortium organized the VALZEO Science Café entitled “Can Waste Save Our Water? Exploring Circular Materials and Clean Technologies.” The session was moderated by Leonardo Piccinetti from Sustainable Innovation Technology Services (SITES) and featured interactive discussions with students, researchers, professors, and stakeholders.

The Science Café focused on how innovation can transform waste into valuable environmental solutions through advanced materials, circular economy approaches, wastewater treatment technologies, and resource recovery systems. The event encouraged active participation and open dialogue on sustainability challenges, clean water technologies, and the role of young researchers in driving environmental innovation.

The activities continued on 22 May 2026 with the VALZEO Project Meeting, where consortium partners reviewed project progress, knowledge transfer activities, dissemination performance, secondments, exploitation pathways, and upcoming strategic actions for the final phase of the project.

During the meeting, Work Package leaders presented updates on scientific achievements, pilot activities, dissemination and communication actions, stakeholder engagement performance, and innovation exploitation strategies. Discussions also addressed project impact, collaboration opportunities, and future sustainability perspectives for VALZEO results.

The events in Ancona demonstrated the strong collaborative spirit of the VALZEO consortium and highlighted the project’s growing contribution to sustainable innovation, circular economy solutions, environmental remediation technologies, and international research cooperation under the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions framework.

The VALZEO consortium warmly thanks all participants, speakers, researchers, students, organizers, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of these activities.

VALZEO is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA Staff Exchanges), Grant Agreement No. 101086354.
