Shaping the Future: Business Models and Innovation in Action on Day 2 of the VALZEO Workshop in Cuba
On June 2, 2025, the second day of the VALZEO International Workshop – Cuba 2025, hosted at the Indio Hatuey Experimental Station (EEPFIH), showcased the transition from laboratory success to practical applications and visionary strategy.
The day began with a welcome by Dr. C. Luis Alberto Hernandez Olivera (EEPFIH), setting the stage for a deep dive into technological demonstrations and biodiesel innovation.
Dr. C. Luis Cepero Casas (EEPFIH) presented recent advances in the development of materials for biodiesel catalysis and led a hands-on demonstration at the biodiesel production plant, illustrating real-world applications of VALZEO’s research. He was joined again by Dr. Hernandez Olivera, who gave an overview of additional technologies currently in use at EEPFIH.
The afternoon sessions brought a strategic focus on long-term impact.
🔹 Dr. C. Gustavo Pérez González (UAB) delivered a session on “Business models for the exploitation of results,” emphasizing the creation of sustainable value chains and market-oriented pathways for the innovations developed under VALZEO.
🔹 Dr. C. Roberto Boada (UAB) followed with a forward-looking reflection, encouraging the consortium to continue fostering global cooperation, upscaling, and capacity-building beyond the project lifecycle.
This diverse and interactive agenda made Day 2 a key turning point in the workshop — where field expertise, business vision, and academic leadership merged to map out a sustainable future for circular economy solutions in agri-tech, water treatment, and biofuel production.
